CATHOLIC ARTIST CONNECTION: How do you understand your vocation as a Catholic artist?

SHANA & VINCENT ALPINO: As artists who are Catholic, we are nourished by two rich histories, each colored by the pursuit of truth, beauty and goodness. Our vocation shares a quality of being with these transcendentals. It is quietly there, keeping vigil unchanged. It is a pursuit of both being and moment, an attempt to distill and actualize.

Where have you found support in the Church for your vocation as an artist?

We have found support from our parish, our pastor and benefactors from our congregation.

Where in your city do you regularly find spiritual fulfillment?

We find spiritual fulfillment and artistic inspiration all around us: in our four boys, in the untouched, native landscape that surrounds our home, in living simply, and cultivating an environment of listening and observing.

How do you market your art and/or build a professional network as an artist?

We market ourselves mostly through the qualities of our work which help to promote word of mouth and in person meetings.

What are your top 3 pieces of advice for Catholic artists post-graduation?

Daily prayer, maintaining creative self discipline in the face of adversity (domestic chores, work, etc), and continuing to educate oneself in relevant fields (new technologies, history, theology).
