Meet Louisiana-based Artist Jalissa Pollard
JALISSA POLLARD is a Denham Springs, Louisiana-based writer and Catholic artist. Check out her LinkTree here.
Her mission? Create texts which affirm Black Catholic identities.
Her vision? To illuminate and honor the lives of Black Catholic multigenerational families.
Jalissa has found support in the Church from the National Black Catholic Congress; Black Catholics of Okaloosa County; Black Catholic Messenger; and the Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxilliary.
She attends St. Jean Vianney and St. Paul the Apostle in the Diocese of Baton Rouge, and her home parish is St. Ann in the Diocese of Lafayette.
Jalissa recommends the Houston Museum of African American Culture, where she finds artistic fulfillment. She prays the rosary and completes a daily reflection in her journal.
Recently, Jalissa was featured on CatholicTV, where she discussed her book, My Grandma is a Lady, which is about a young African American girl who chronicles her memories of her grandmother's participation and membership in the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver, a historically black lay organization of Catholics.
