My name is Ashley Samona Baker. I live in Harlem, New York (NYC) and I am a writer, actor and educator.

I love the freedom you find in arts and the ability to take on different skin! As a writer, I tell stories that engage, uplift and inspire. As a performer, I love transforming. I’ve played royalty and clowns, historical figures like Harriet Tubman and Wilma Rudolph, puppies, preachers and pimps! To me, both mediums are about finding your truth and sharing it.

Faith and Performance

Faith is integral to performance. Before every show or every taping, I say a prayer. I ask Saint Genesius, the patron Saint of actors, to be by my side and protect the cast and crew.  I ask for faith, to step out of the way and let the story move through me. Mass is also very theatrical! There’s beauty and ceremony to it. There’s elaborate costumes, lighting, a chorus, and lines that we say. Everyone plays a part! The sacred ritual of the Mass can bring us closer to God.

For inspiration and silliness, you can find me at Medium.com.

In commercials for Shark Week, Nickelodeon and Amazon, or in ads in your NYC subway!
